Summary:

Today more than ever, the classic designations and attributions "genius = male" and "muse = female" seem to leave a stale aftertaste on many female artists. The genius-muse constellation has remained a constant motif to this day, especially in artists' biographies, and is notoriously found in films in which the lives of artists are portrayed, whether the plot is fictionally designed or biographically oriented. This constellation is always inscribed with gender roles and power relations. For male authors, producers and directors continue to dominate, especially in the film industry. The book focuses on the cinematic realization of the artist's genius and that of the muse by means of several films.

Jacqueline Roussety started her career as an actress, director and presenter. She also began her studies in German literature, history and film sciences at Humboldt University. She has published several books as a writer and works as a director at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. She also works there as an actress. Her PhD “Crime Scenes of power and Seduction. Geniuses and muses in film is her most recent publication.
